Know a little dancer who’s ready for formal training? Then point them toward the Charleston Dance Institute (CDI) — the Community Education Foundation of the CDI has announced new scholarships for young, talented dancers. The scholarships allow children whose families are tight on money the opportunity to take dance classes at the CDI studio in Mt. Pleasant.
When asked why she wanted to give out scholarships, Penny Leighton, chair of the audition committee, said, “I’m so aware of the fact that there are talented kids out there with very little money. We really wanted to help the dance school find these dancers but mostly, we wanted to give opportunities to these children.”
All you need to apply for the scholarship is proof of financial need and an audition. The audition will require dancers to participate in a dance class to assess their potential and talent. If you have any questions, feel free to call the studio at (843) 284-8151 for more information. An application form can be submitted online at charlestondanceinstitute.com. Auditions will be held July 21.
