- Rocky Horror is no more
Say goodbye to Rocky Horror, ladies and gents. The 2011 Charleston City Paper Music Award winner for DJ/turntablist/electronic artist of the year has gone the way of the dodo. However, Chris Morris — the Artist Formerly Known as Rocky Horror — is doing quite all right with his other project, Worship the Sky.
“The name change started out as a separate alter ego away from Rocky Horror. I wanted to try a different style of electronic music, focusing on more of an atmospheric vibe, based around a U.K. style of production called future bass,” Morris says. “As time passed, I realized I was enjoying my time spent producing under the alter ego, more than my work as Rocky Horror.”
These days, Worship the Sky is Morris’ main focus, and his sound has moved away from Rocky Horror’s more aggressive beats. “Worship the Sky definitely conveys an emotion of sorts, with elements of space and relaxing, but still giving the fans of my music what they love,” says Morris. “It’s dark and mysterious for sure. I think that’s something that’s come naturally to me ever since I was little.”
The multi-talented DJ is also part of Holy Blood, a house music duo with Chicago DJ and producer, Joycette. Their new EP Nightwave comes out this summer. Look for on iTunes.
Morris is also the brains behind the Hell House Podcast. The venture began as a small local podcast, but it has since turned into an international source of underground dance music. The series features guest mixes from Charleston acts as well as artists like Hostage, Murder Mark, and Zombies from Portugal.
This month, Morris also hosted the first Hell House Podcast Live at Faculty Lounge. The inaugural show featured Charleston’s Mel Willis a.k.a. DJ Mummbls. The live podcast show will take place on the second Saturday of the month. Both live recordings will be put together as a mix for download on iTunes every month.
