Want to make Charleston County a better place? Chances are there’s a vacancy on a county board or commission that you can fill.

County Council announced 43 vacancies on its boards and commissions last week, and we’ve listed them below. If you’re interested in filling one of the positions, you’ll need to fill out an appointment application by Aug. 5. County Council’s Administration Policy and Rules Committee, made up of five councilmembers, will consider all applications during a meeting on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. and make recommendations for a full council vote on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.

Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals
• 1 vacancy for a civil engineer
• 1 vacancy for a licensed electrical contractor
• 1 vacancy for a licensed general contractor
• 1 vacancy for an architect
• 1 vacancy for a mechanical or plumbing contractor
• 1 vacancy for a resident state fire marshal

Set-Off Debt Collection Hearing Officer
• 1 vacancy

Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee
• 5 vacancies, applicants must reside in unincorporated Charleston County and preference will be given to those residing in unincorporated West Ashley and Johns Island

Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments
• 4 vacancies

Firemen’s Insurance and Inspection Fund
• 1 vacancy for Saint John’s Fire District
• 4 vacancies for St. Andrews Public Service District
• 4 vacancies for Awendaw Consolidated Fire District
• 1 vacancy for James Island Public Service District

Board of Assessment Appeals
• 2 vacancies

Greenbelt Bank Board
• 1 vacancy for a board member of a charitable corporation or trust authorized to do business in this state that is actively engaged in the acquisition of interests in land from voluntary sellers for the purposes of natural resource or land conservation in the County

Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission
• 4 vacancies

• 1 vacancy
