The South Carolina Arts Commission has announced that they are accepting applications for the Individual Artist Fellowship Awards. This year, four fellowships of $5,000 will be handed out for prose, poetry, acting, and playwriting. More than 100 applications are submitted and reviewed anonymously by a panel of out-of-state experts in each discipline every year.

The Commission’s Milly Hough explains that the awards were created to help artists who have been practicing for a while. “Since the money is awarded without restrictions, it can take the pressure off an artist so they can go to workshops or build their education while still being able to support themselves.”

Fellowships in these fields will not be awarded again for another two years, and the deadline is Nov. 1. Apply online at  SouthCarolinaArts.com.
