Columbia’s Stereofly music collective is hosting a SXSW showcase at the Javelina Bar in Austin Texas, to promote the talented bands that call South Carolina, and the rest of the Southeast, home. The Stereofly showcase is scheduled for March 11-12, and it’ll include local favorites Carnaval, Zonaea, Megan Jean & the KFB, and Rachel Kate. SXSW begins March 7.

“We believe that the Southeast’s cultural significance and impact is somewhat overlooked,” says Stereofly’s Alex Strickland. “There are great artists emerging from our neck of the woods that have gotten national acclaim, but we believe those artists are the tip of the iceberg.”

The showcase will divide the performers into four categories: Saturated, Rustic, Aggressive, and Fluid. “The goal of the adjectives is to create a connection with an audience that is not simply based on prescribed notions of what bands should or should not sound like,” Strickland says. Stereofly also hopes to buck prescribed notions of what Southern bands should or should not sound like also.
