Shovels & Rope’s new album Swimmin’ Time won’t be out until Aug. 26, but today the band released a new track to pique our interest. The song is called “The Devil Is All Around,” and it’s accompanied by a making-of video with concert and studio footage:

The band also announced that pre-orders of the album will be available starting today. Pre-orders come with an instant download of “The Devil Is All Around” and the title track “Swimmin’ Time,” plus two bonus songs on the day of the album’s release if you order a hard copy.

From the band’s Facebook page:

It’s sort of like ShoRo Christmas Eve where you get to open one present the night before Xmas. Except Santa comes in June carrying a whiskey flask and smells like Hawaiian Tropic.

About that song: We’ve been hearing it at concerts since at least last fall, and it sounds like classic songwriting from Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent: Biblical allusion, gettin’ wasted around a fire, and gorgeous, ragged vocal harmonies. More, please.
