Local playwrights Thomas and Judy Heath have been Threshold Repertory Theatre’s Playwrights-in-Residence for the past year, and it seems they’re tackling their roles with aplomb — they’re coming back for another year, according to a Threshold press release.

The Heaths are the authors of three plays, all of which have been produced: The Sunset Years, Perfectly Normel People, and Bedroom Secrets. Perfectly Normel People premiered during the 2012 Piccolo Spoleto festival, and went on to show at the NY Fringe Festival in 2013; Bedroom Secrets premiered in New York in 2014. The Sunset Years, the Heaths’ first play, premiered in Charleston in 2011 at the Village Repertory Co., and was produced again last year as part of Threshold’s regular season.

As the playwrights-in-residence, Thomas and Judy will play an active role in Threshold’s playwriting outreach with local high school students. “Our initial goal is to ignite a passion in students for the art of creating stories for the stage,” Judy says. “We feel honored to mentor the next generation of homegrown playwrights and hope that we can guide them to creating work that gets produced in the future,” Thomas adds.

The residency year will begin in April with an evening of short plays by the Heaths, as well as a staged reading of work by student playwrights. Find out more at thresholdrep.org or by calling (843) 277-2172.
