Unless you’ve been locked in an ice castle at the top of a mountain, you’ve seen the photos of Hanahan’s finest putting the cuffs on an actress dressed as the Queen of Arendelle as part of a marketing stunt for a local party company catering to children and Disney enthusiasts.
The photos of Elsa in custody popped up on the Post and Courier (x2) and made the rounds on local media before being picked up by national outlets from USA Today to Entertainment Tonight. Just as things were dying down yesterday, Glass Slipper Productions’ “Elsa” stopped by the local ABC affiliate WCIV-TV for a party, of sorts, even pitching in on the five-day forecast with weatherman Dave Williams.
Well, Mr. Timothy Burke over at Deadspin’s Concourse culture blog did not take too kindly to the whole thing. Not even a little. With every bit of Olaf’s fury, Burke laid into WCIV and the Elsa impersonator, pointing out that the actress wasn’t actually the animated Disney character, but rather a “random woman cosplaying” as Elsa. Burke, whose Gawker Media oeurvre is dotted with soccer GIF play-by-play, Kanye videos, 50 Shades jokes, and now, possibly unattributed local news recaps, laments that “every minute we tie up a local news outlet with reporting stupid fake Disney news is one they aren’t using to fuck something else up.”
UPDATE: Soon after this post, Deadspin updated their post with links to ABC News 4.
