Last year the members of Charleston Brown Water Society (CBWS) got barbecue lovers all in a tizzy when they hosted their first Summer BBQ Invitational. The event brought in Rodney Scott of Scott’s BBQ in Hemingway, S.C. and Austin, Texas’ John Lewis of La Barbecue together at Holy City Brewing for one meaty afternoon.
Now CBWS is bringing back the popular event on Sun. July 12 and this year three new big name pitmasters will headline. Pat Martin of Martins Bar-B-Que Joint in Nashville, TN and Mike and Amy Mills of 17th Street BBQ in Ill. will join local barbecue pitmasters Aaron Siegel, Taylor Garrigan, and Madison Ruckel from Home Team BBQ.
We’re told each of the pitmasters will cook a different cut of meat. Once again Holy City Brewery will serve beer. And the whiskey? Well that’ll come courtesy of local bartenders who will pour spirits from Medley Bros., Smooth Ambler, and more. But perhaps the best news of this year’s invitational is the addition of Kelly Chu. The owner of Aya and Red Orchids will serve her special ice cream. We’re hoping that means she’s getting closer to packaging those sweet treats and mass marketing them.
The Summer BBQ Invitational will take place Sun. July 12 at 4 p.m. and costs $60 per person for one round of food. Need more? A VIP ($150) ticket includes two meals and access to the CBWS VIP Tent as well as a special bar run by Alba Huerta, partner at The Nightingale Room and The Pastry War and owner/operator of Julep in Houston, Texas. VIP space is limited. To learn more, click here. For tickets, click here.
