Last year at the Charleston Wine + Food, Southern Foodways Alliance — an organization that studies and celebrates the food of the South — recorded the oral histories from 14 of the city’s leading culinary voices.
Today, that work of SFA has been released and now you can watch videos of people like chefs Mike Lata and BJ Dennis, farmer Celeste Albers and fisherman Mark Marhefka.
The videos are an illuminating look into the lives of these individuals. A few of our favorite moments? Dennis talking about watching his grandfather farm with an ox; hearing Lata explain how Charleston was an undiscovered food gem when he moved here from Atlanta; and listening to Vereen Coen discuss her mother who was one of the two editors of the famous Charleston Receipts.
