Downtown’s new record store the Vinyl Countdown has embarked on a mission to donate at least $1,000 a month to local charities.

“This month we are donating money to Girls Rock Charleston,” says owner Aaron Levy. “We are donating one dollar for every record we sell that features a female artist in any capacity, even if it’s just on one track. We will be writing them a check for $1,000 no matter how many ‘qualifying’ records we sell, but we’re trying to get more people in here to buy music by women.”

Next month, the store will donate to a local animal charity, though which one is currently undecided.
