[image-1]Today gourmet and specialty food store Southern Season announced it is closing its 44,000-square-foot store in Mt. Pleasant. The news comes shortly after the chain opened a new, smaller space, Taste, on Market Street in May.

According to a press release, “Southern Season will concentrate its resources on the opening of multiple new Taste of Southern Season stores across the Southeast over the next 36 months.” The company, based out of Chapel Hill, has struggled this year, recently closing another 53,000-square-foot Southern Season in Henrico, Va.

“We thank our valued Mount Pleasant store customers for their loyalty for nearly three years,” said Southern Season President Dave Herman in the press release.

In advance of the closing, the Mt. Pleasant location will hold a 40 percent-off sale beginning today.
