DUMB DOCS DROP SINGLES

A Russian label recently released a collection of the DUMB Doctorsโ€™ sporadic singles from the past several years in an LP fittingly entitled Singles 2013-2016. Frontman Scott Dence says the got acquainted with the label owners after their old band recorded a DUMB Docs song in Russian, later on sending Dence a video of the Russian band performing the cover. โ€œThere were over 100 kids going crazy,โ€ he says. โ€œThey were singing along and crowdsurfing โ€” going fucking nuts. It was intensely surreal to see.โ€

The Moscow-based label Pomogite Community specializes in garage-punk, lo-fi, psychedelic, shoegaze noise-pop, so the Docs understandably fit the bill, resulting in the release of the 12-song album that includes tracks like 2014โ€™s โ€œKilled by Weedโ€ and last monthโ€™s โ€œThe Stranger.โ€ Dence says Singles will get a tape release in the coming weeks. In the meantime, download and stream Singles at pomogitecommunity.bandcamp.com, and get further updates via facebook.com/dumbdoctors.ย

NEW ALBUM FROM THE CAMELLIAS

The Camellias, led by former City Paper news writer Paul Bowers. released a new collection of songs last week entitled Against Nostalgia. The LPโ€™s cover art and the track โ€œCrush, TXโ€ was inspired by a 1896 publicity stunt gone awry. What was meant to be a fake train wreck along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad ended in chaos when both engine boilers exploded, the debris killing at least two people and injuring countless more. โ€œAs an Americana-inflected songwriter with a pathetic tendency toward nostalgia, I suppose I would have given in to the temptation to write a song about a train sooner or later,โ€ Bowers said in a recent blog post. โ€œLet โ€˜Crush, TX,โ€™ be my train song. Let this album be our meager entry in the long canon of songs about death, love, and the possibility of renewal of the spirit.โ€ Learn more about โ€œCrush, TXโ€ at paulmbowers.tumblr.com. Against Nostalgia is available now at camellias.bandcamp.com.ย

Entitled โ€œThe Wall Song,โ€ the track combines Americana and rock with bluegrass and is off the bandโ€™s upcoming, as-of-yet titled EP. โ€œThe Wall Song,โ€ which begins with what we can only assume are Trump supporters chanting “Build a Wall,” was recorded by Todd Brown at Return to Zero Studios.
