[image-1]Independent reporter Quintin Washington spotted the sign in the window of the Gentry Bar yesterday: “Gentry Bar is moving to its new location. We look forward to serving you there.” Now the restaurant, owned by occasional Southern Charm cast member JD Madison and helmed by Chef Marvin Woods, has released a statement confirming the move.
The Gentry Bar is presently in transition from its location of 276 King Street with the plan to move into a new venue downtown.
Gentry owner, John David Madison, said “the ownership of the building changed hands and when that happened the option for lease renewal became increasingly difficult. So much so that the decision to relocate the successful business became a necessity. We have loved the opportunity of serving Charleston and its fine visitors and look forward to opening our doors in a new location downtown very soon.”
Prior to opening Gentry in March, Madison (who also owns the Gentry bourbon brand) operated Sermet’s in the same location. Sermet’s was originally the work of chef and painter Sermet Aslan, who operated the corner eatery for more than a decade.
As to who or what will take over the marquee space next has yet to be announced. No further information was provided regarding Gentry’s new location or what may go into the space. [location-1]
