The Works fitness instructors Alex Mirzayan and Meggie Austinโ€™s new company is providing Charleston with locally made canned juice that maintains its flavor and color longer than the average fresh-made juice. Juiceheads is now available in two different flavors, but the duo plans to expand their operation soon.

โ€œI work in the fitness industry where Iโ€™m surrounded by (people saying), โ€˜Drink this after you workout,โ€™โ€ said Mirzayan, who came up with the idea for Juiceheads in November. She brought the idea to Austin, another instructor at The Works, and Austin was all in.

Mirzayan and Austin both spent years in the food and beverage industry at establishments like Indaco and Uptown Social, but Juiceheads is their first solo venture. Right now, theyโ€™re offering two different juices โ€” the lemon and celery โ€œBasic Bitchโ€ and the carrot, ginger and tangerine โ€œSassy Bitch.โ€ Both juices are available in cans at The Works two area locations, downtown and Mount Pleasant.

Mirzayan credits Dalai Sofia founder Zach Smith with the idea to put the juices in cans. Smith, whose company makes eight different flavors of craft kombucha, allowed Juiceheads to use his West Ashley facility, teaching Mirzayan and Austin how to operate the canning line.

โ€œWe couldn’t have done it without him, that’s for sure,โ€ Mirzayan said. โ€œThe benefit of the can is the shelf life. Light and oxygen can change the color and taste.โ€ Juiceheads canned juice stays fresh for a full week, while others can go bad within four days, she said.

Keep an eye on the Juiceheads Instagram later this month โ€” Mirzayan and Austin are finalizing a pop-up at Vintage Lounge and will launch round two of โ€œThe Reset,โ€ a two-day juice cleanse that comes with five flavors and 10 total juices for $99.
