Trio nightclub on Calhoun Street downtown will host a hip-hop concert March 9 at 9 p.m. presented by All Things Gxld Productions, featuring local artists Indi Gxld, Slim S.O.U.L. and Abstract That Rapper with DJ Flip.
“I’ve been looking to host a hip-hop night in the Charleston area to showcase the local artists: people who are up-and-coming and who have been here for a while,” said Adrian Champagne, booking and road manager for Indi Gxld. “It will be the normal chill homie vibes, like what Slim S.O.U.L. always brings. We are planning to do a cypher and have other rappers in the building come up.”
Champagne’s vision is to host these nights consistently enough and get in shape to attract big-name artists to Charleston, starting with promoting the local talent, eventually booking soul bands in collaboration with rappers and DJs and bringing in regional artists from Columbia, Greenville and Myrtle Beach. The ultimate goal is to get Charleston connected with a national network of performers, producers and record labels.
“We don’t really have that hip-hop club vibe where you can go to see rappers on stage,” he said. “You have to go to bars that don’t have stages or professional sound. We are trying to level it up and make it professional.”
