A fter bartending for 20 years, Realtor Shana Swain, who won this year’s Best Realtor, has been in the real estate agent game just shy of two years. Still, Swain has always been a client-focused person, considering that’s what the food and bev industry is all about. She’s also maintained a grassroots approach to being compassionate toward others, having run a local food drive called Cans for Karma for the past 11 years with her family. And that philosophy extends to her approach as a Realtor: it’s not about getting the commission, but taking an oath to be faithful to the client.
“Make sure that your relationships are strong and stout,” Swain told City Paper. “Make sure that you are nurturing the people you know, that every day you’re spending your time helping to improve someone else’s life, because in the end it’s going to do nothing but improve your life.”
And to her, being a real estate agent is not glamorous.
“Invest in the snakeskin boots, invest in dirty jeans, invest in a couple of pairs of sunglasses, invest in yard signs. You have to invest in your business and invest in yourself in order to offer the right tools to help your client.”
