It was another weekend of shootings and deaths from guns across the Palmetto State as at least five died in gun-related incidents and several others were hurt.
In Horry County, officers were shot at toward the end of a community celebration. A woman died in Murrells Inlet after an apparently accidental shooting. In Greenville County, one man died Sunday and two others were hurt in unrelated incidents. And in the Columbia area, two died Sunday and a 14-year-old was hurt in separate incidents.
Meanwhile in North Myrtle Beach, an officer is being praised for quick thinking and attention to detail during a May 28 traffic stop that led to a suspected shooter’s arrest.
And in North Charleston, Lowcountry leaders are pushing to close a food store after a shooting left one person dead and three hurt recently. They say the store has been a hub of crime in recent years.

Across the GOP spectrum, GOP presidential candidates are facing hard choices between defending law and order or their loyalty to Trump. Longshots like U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., reportedly are pushing optimism in their campaigns instead of division and fear.
Charleston port may get more business due to West Coast port problems. Cargo imports may shift here after West Coast ports faced shutdowns recently.
