Houdini on hard times

Mount Pleasant police on Aug. 29 arrested a man for disorderly conduct, and placed him in the back of a cruiser in handcuffs. Before they arrived at the jail, however, police noticed that the man had slipped out of his handcuffs and had procured a bottle of vodka he reportedly had hidden in his sock. Celebrate good times, come on!

The double whammy

A North Charleston man told North Charleston police Aug. 25 that his TV had been stolen out of his bedroom while he was away. He replaced the stolen TV with a smaller backup the next day, but it, too, was stolen while he was out. He later explained to police that he had lost his apartment key some time ago and has been routinely entering and leaving through the unlocked window.

If at first you donโ€™t succeed

A North Charleston man on Aug. 26 told North Charleston police he chased two kids away after they reportedly stole his bike, preventing them from stealing a second bike from his neighbor. A few minutes later, however, the kids returned for a second failed attempt at stealing the second bike.

Minimum wage, minimum effort

A Mount Pleasant man on Aug. 30 reportedly tampered with the price tag on several cases of Budweiser in a Proprietors Place department store. Mount Pleasant police said the cases rung up as $2.48 per case instead of more than $20. Bet you didnโ€™t know cashiers could be detectives, too.

Always take notes

A downtown man told Charleston police on Aug. 21 that while his vehicle was parked, a truck attempting to back into the space next to his damaged his vehicle. He didnโ€™t get the truck driverโ€™s information, but said he spoke to a nearby officer at the time of the incident, whose name he does not remember. Good work, man.

Worth it

A West Ashley man protesting outside of the Ashley River Road Planned Parenthood clinic  on Aug. 22 reportedly had his $40 megaphone taken and smashed on the ground by another man. He pressed charges, and police cited the latter for damaging personal property. We seldom take sides in Blotter reports, but โ€ฆ

Crying wolf

Charleston police on Aug. 21 received a call regarding a homeless person โ€œrummaging throughโ€ a Glenn McConnell Parkway donation drop-off box. The caller told police she often has issues with homeless people going through donation boxes, but later said she hadnโ€™t seen anyone physically interact with it, only walk near it.
