It’s no secret that spritzes — Italian wine based-cocktails — have gained popularity over the past several years. Last year Wine Enthusiast proclaimed that “Spritz sales have skyrocketed threefold in restaurants and bars, according to a recent study by hospitality research firm CGA.”
You can find spritzes on bar and restaurant menus all over town and this month The Palmetto Hotel is joining the fun with its Spritz Showdown series. Every Thursday now through the end of the month, guests can head to the hotel’s lobby bar to try out three different takes on the bubbly bev.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 13, June 20 and June 27, local bartenders and spritz specialists will be mixing up their iterations of the popular drink. Bartender and bar consultant Megan Deschaine takes over on June 13; social media personality Sarah Louise Rhodes, known for her Instagram account @thespritzeffect takes over on June 10 and Caroline Woodruff, part of the team behind pop-up Batik, rounds things out on June 27.
Throughout July the bar will serve a special cocktail flight that features all three spritzes and guests will vote for their favorite. The winner will be added to the Palmetto Hotel’s signature cocktail menu.
