Chef Shin Horiguchi returns to the Thoroughbred Club at Charleston Place June 20 through June 30 for the third iteration of his omakase sushi pop-up. Horiguchi presented two successful pop-ups earlier this year and his last visit to the Thoroughbred Club is slated for October 3 through October 12.

Horiguchi said that he likes the setup of the pop-up — which features a bar built specifically for the made-to-order experience — where guests can ask him questions about the dishes he’s preparing.

Guests can enjoy Horiguchi’s menu in the traditional omakase-style, with multiple courses, or  sashimi, nigiri, and rolls a la carte. Order a la carte bites, from sea bass to sea urchin (find the full menu online), and pair them with a variety of Japanese beers and sakes — Horiguchi recommends Kubota Manju.

The menu changes seasonally, so guests who visited earlier this year can expect some new dishes this summer.

Diners can reserve a spot on Resy, but walk-ins are welcome, too. If sushi is intimidating, fear not — Horiguchi is here for you. “If [they’ve] never had it before, I want to make that experience special for them,” he said.
