Now through the end of August, diners can enjoy dishes from a crowd-sourced “customer favorites” menu at James Island’s Kwei Fei. Each week chef/owner David Schuttenberg and chef de cuisine Greg Kurtzman add cult-favorite dishes to the menu, selected by guests through Instagram polls and in-person feedback.
“We started doing special menus as soon as we opened Kwei Fei,” said co-owner Tina Heath-Schuttenberg. “Our first year, we paid it forward by giving our space to up-and-coming pop-ups for a month at a time (Kultura was one). Since then, we’ve tested menus for a secondary concept, which became Beautiful South, Veganuary during the month of January, and, of course, Customer Favorites in August.”
Heath-Schuttenberg said that Kwei Fei’s loyal customers are always asking for particular food items to come back — some that even the Kwei Fei team has forgotten about. The first week featured a garlic chili duck noodle and dry fried green beans and this coming week will feature Yibin Noodle, Yu Xiang Eggplant and Hong Yu Chicken.
Kwei Fei is welcoming suggestions for menu items for the final week, so be sure to message them on Instagram, @kweifei.
Check out the restaurant’s new happy hour specials, too, which include beer and bao for $9, $5 happy hour snacks and $7 select draft beers and wines. Happy hour snacks include dumplings, bao and “magic chili.” Learn more online at kweifei.com.
