The Sunday brunch at Ma’am Saab in downtown Charleston was so good last year that Ray and Janet Caputo came back this year during Charleston Food + Wine Festival.
“The flavors are just incredible,” said Ray, who lives in Dunwoody, Ga., with his wife. “You couldn’t recreate it at home.”
Janet added, “I think this is my favorite restaurant in Charleston.”
The brunch started with a puff pastry stuffed with curry-spiced chicken. Then came an omelet accompanied by Khatav Allo (stewed potatoes in a tangy sauce), Chana Masala (garbanzo beans with spices) and Dum Qeema (ground beef with smoked yogurt). The perfect cocktail to go with it was mint masala lemonade, a potent tequila beverage with spices. To finish, more than 50 guests enjoyed a carrot dessert with masala chai.
