MORNING HEADLINES | Early voting begins today and continues through June 5 across the state. Voting centers will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Locations will be closed on weekends.
Meanwhile, the state Senate returns today to Columbia to consider an unprecedented rushed plan to redraw congressional districts to gain a political advantage in Washington. The S.C. House passed a new plan last week, but senators couldn’t get it finished before early voting started. If the Senate passes a new plan, the impact on the June 9 primary remains unknown — since early voting already started.
In another development, members of the Congressional Black Caucus urged companies to condemn the redistricting efforts by Republican-led states that seek to eliminate majority-Black U.S. House districts.
