Sweat on the Ship

Sweat on the Ship is an all-levels strength and movement experience designed to help you close out your week with intention. Held on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown, this unique workout session blends functional strength training with breathwork, mobility and grounding movement all while surrounded by sea breeze, golden skies. and the historic energy of the ship.

Building Buddies

Get ready to build, play and make new friends! Building Buddies is a hands-on, interactive program at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry that encourages kids to work together as they explore, stack, snap and build using a variety of fun materials like LEGOs, wooden blocks, magnetic tiles and more. The Brett Belanger Trio at Forte

Brett Belanger is a highly accomplished and sought-after bassist leading a trio of A-list musicians that includes Abdiel Iriarte on piano and Ron Wiltrout on drums. Together, they cover great American jazz standards as well as more contemporary material from the bebop era. From time to time, they include some of their own compositions. Pickle Palooza

The briniest festival of the year returns next weekend, expanding the popular, quirky celebration into a three-day weekend of pickly food, drinks, competition, entertainment and more. The James Island festival drew more than 2,000 attendees last year, and organizers are expecting this year’s to be the biggest crowd yet. The main festival takes place Saturday and will conclude with a more relaxed Sunday with a pickle-themed brunch and market.

Baking contest: Local chef Kyle Caukins will compete on the Food Network’s Halloween baking championship. Caulkins works as a pastry chef at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort and as a pastry instructor at the Charleston Chef’s Collective. He also owns Baked By Kyle C, a small-batch specialty baking business. The show premiers on Sept. 14.

Brunch debut: By The Way has added brunch every Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. The menu includes brunch classics like steak and eggs, eggs Benedict and avocado toast alongside dishes like seasonal quiche and shakshuka. On the first Sunday of each month, a different neighborhood favorite will offer a one-off collaboration dish on the menu. Oct. 4 will feature The Pass, Nov. 8 will feature Annie Mae’s and Dec. 6 will feature Luther’s.

Lamb jam: Bintü Atelier will host the Lamb Jam Supper Club at 6 p.m. Sept. 15. The evening offers a multi-course dinner featuring the restaurant’s award-winning Lamb Jam dish alongside additional chef-crafted courses, paired with complementary beverages. Tomato party: Sorelle is hosting its inaugural Tomato Fest, a week-long celebration at the restaurant and Mercato from Sept. 19 to 25. Items include Sorelle’s tomato martini and tomato carpaccio as well as Mercato specials like heirloom tomato and watermelon gazpacho and corn and tomato panzanella. On Sept. 25 there will be an intimate six-course dinner from Executive Chef Nick Dugan and guest Chef Jacques Larson of Wild Olive and Obstinate Daughter.
