Longtime Charleston act The Blue Dogs — a skillful rock/roots band with loyal fans who consistently vote them tops in City Paper’s “Best Local Band” category — celebrate their 20th year together this month. Known for their twangy original tunes, respectfully-rendered bluegrass traditionals, and heartfelt harmonies, guitarist/lead vocalist Bobby Houck and upright/electric bassist Hank Futch have been the core of the Dogs since the beginning. The band has stayed quite busy for the last two years, touring behind their recent studio album, Halos & Good Buys, and their new DVD, Live at the House of Blues (shot at the Myrtle Beach venue).

The Blue Dogs are calling their celebratory show at the Music Farm on Sat. Oct. 4 the “Blue Dogs Cosmic Circus.” The lineup included guitarist Dave Stewart, drummer Greg Walker, and special guests. The bill features three -up-and-coming roots/rock acts — Charlottesville band Peyton Tochterman & High Society, the Columbia-based Woodwork Roadshow, and Charlotte act Simplified. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for $15 ($12 advance).
