Box officers Amber Rhye and Catherine Adams are currently my two favorite people. The girls (along with other employees) man the computers at the Gaillard, selling Spoletians their tickets. Earlier this afternoon, they gave me the scoop on which shows are in demand.
Letโs start with whatโs sold out: Seats for Present Laughter shows through June 6 are gone, as well as for Leszek Moลผdลผer May 30 concert (and the Wachovia Jazz series in general has been especially popular). You also wonโt be able to get into the first run of Proserpina. Meanwhile, Lizz Wrightโs show on June 2 is getting pretty close to selling out, and tickets for the Ebony Hillbillies are down to general admission.
The ladies say that the two Colla presentations, Cinderella and Philemon and Baucis, are selling quickly. I guess thatโs what happens when your kid-friendly choices are very limited. The Trocks are also popular, but the girls guess that since the Gaillard is so large, you wonโt have to worry about snagging a seat. Tickets for the Spoleto finale are going quicker than they usually do, which Rhye and Adams chalk up to the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
And each of the Die Roten Punkte shows have about 150 seats left. Guess the Spoleto crowd canโt handle punk music.
We also got in touch with the Piccolo Spoleto headquarters. Their only sold-out show so far is Ann Caldwell with Loosefitt Band, part of the John Street Jazz series, on Sun. May 30 at 3:30 p.m. Some of their most popular sellers so far have been the Charlestonโs Menโs Chorus, Oh George! On Stage with George Gershwin, and AlwaysโฆPatsy Cline.
