A weekend of fun and fresh air and some extra change left in your pocket at the end of the trip … sounds good, right? For three weekends this summer, the 147 National Park Service sites that charge entry fees will waive those fees to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy these “national treasures.” Normally admission to these sites ranges from $3-$25, but during these special weekends entry is free. In addition to dropping the entrance fee many park partners, including tour operators, hotels, and restaurants are offering discounts and special promotions to further boost the travel incentive. The weekends scheduled to be fee-free are June 20-21, July 18-19, and August 15-16. Two great parks to visit in the Charleston area are Fort Moultrie, which is celebrating its bicentennial anniversary this year, and Fort Sumter.
