There are two very big, very different premiere parties happening in Charleston this week, and if you’re any kind of pop-culture geek, it’s time to start amping up.

First is the opening of The Hunger Games, the young adult novel adaptation starring Jennifer Lawrence. For its debut, Cinebarre (963 Houston-Northcutt Blvd.) is hosting a blood drive (which seems like it would be more appropriate for a Twilight premiere, but who’s complaining?). That takes place on Fri. March 23 from 3-7 p.m., but the movie theater will also be collecting canned food donations for the Lowcountry Food Bank through Sun. March 25. Participants can earn movie passes with their donations, which will be put to good use when you go see The Hunger Games for the second or 20th time. Find out more by calling (843) 884-7885.

Meanwhile, on March 25, Mercury Bar (547 King St.) is hosting a party for the long, long, long awaited premiere of the fifth season of Mad Men. Is Don Draper a remarried man? Is he unemployed? Find out at this event, where they’ll have free hors d’oeuvres and drink specials, trivia, and a costume contest. The $10 donation at the door benefits the Village Repertory Theatre Building Initiative.

Call (843) 793-2964 or visit the Village Playhouse’s website for more info.
