Charleston Fashion Week has announced its selections for the 2013 Emerging Designer Competition: East. The 20 semi-finalists were chosen by a panel of fashion experts, including Nikki Poulos and Sarah Parott of NBC’s Fashion Stars and fashion journalist Cator Sparks.
The 20 designers hail from five different states along the East Coast, including one South Carolinian. Lulu Long, a native of Seabrook Island, is no stranger to the Lowcountry. She specializes in designing children’s clothes, drawing influences from Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang. From just a couple hours south of Charleston is Savannah’s Sabrina Spanta. A mere 20 years old, Spanta admires Alexander McQueen and draws inspiration from nature and instrumental music.
Each of these promising designers will get a chance to showcase their Fall 2013 collections March 19-22. Winners will be selected each night to advance to the final competition, which will be held Saturday evening. There will be one Grand Prize Winner who will get $5,000 cash, among many other career-enhancing prizes.
