Police temporarily closed off traffic to a block of Morrison Drive north of Williman Street this afternoon as emergency personnel responded to a collision in which an SUV was pinned between a tractor trailer and a tree.

Charles Francis, a spokesman for the Charleston Police Department, said the driver of the SUV was taken to MUSC with non-life-threatening injuries. According to Francis, the driver of an oversized semi-truck lost control of the vehicle and struck an SUV around 2:54 p.m., pinning it against a tree. Morrison Drive was temporarily closed but has since been reopened to traffic.

Members of Charleston Fire Department, North Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County EMS, and Charleston Police Department were on the scene. Responders could be seen using jaws of life to remove a person from the SUV and place the person on a stretcher.
