Following up an introductory presentation he gave in Charleston in July, transportation expert Gabe Klein will give a free talk again tonight at the Charleston Museum to discuss his recommendations for how the city can address increasingly-complex transportation needs on the peninsula.
Now in the private sector, from 2008-2013 Klein served as director of transportation systems in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, where he built a reputation as the “poster boy for reconfiguring urban streets” to accommodate alternate modes of transportation. He was also an early vice-president of Zipcar, a widely-used car-sharing service available in many U.S. cities. Both Chicago and D.C. run city-sponsored bikeshare programs similar to the program proposed by the city earlier this year.
Earlier this summer, the city announced it was working with the Historic Charleston Foundation to bring Klein to Charleston to assist crafting a “mobile strategy for the Peninsula.” During his presentation tonight, Klein will deliver his recommendations for bike, pedestrian, transit, and parking policy for the city.
Tonight’s free talk starts at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Museum Auditorium at 360 Meeting Street.
