According to an incident report from the Charleston Police Department, a Live 5 News weekend anchor and reporter* was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct around 1:15 a.m. Friday.
Two officers on foot patrol on Calhoun Street were met by a cab driver who stated that his passenger had lost consciousness. After the officers requested medical assistance, the reporter allegedly refused to answer most of the officers’ questions regarding her well-being and destination.
The report notes that officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol from the reporter, who needed officer assistance to locate her identification. According to the report, the person “constantly rebuked” officers’ attempts at assisting her, and she began to shout obscenities while refusing to cooperate with police.
After being informed by the officer that she would be taken to jail if she did not provide an address for the cab driver, she allegedly stated, “I don’t give a fuck, take me to jail,” according to the report. As officers attempted to remove the person from the cab, she repeatedly stated, “Are you fucking serious?” according to the report.
The reporter was later transported and lodged at Al Cannon Detention Center around 2:15 a.m. The sheriff’s office website shows that the person was released around 10:17 a.m.
* EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated by removing the person’s name and photo as the individual was found not guilty. The charge later was dismissed and expunged.
