On Jeopardy Monday: Edisto slave cabin donated to National Museum of African-American Heritage and Culture

Over the past few months, the Jeopardy crew has included categories on multiple episodes from the new Smithsonian museum devoted to African-American history in Washington, D.C.

Last night, host Alex Trebek visited one of the centerpieces of the museum, a slave cabin built in 1853 on Edisto Island. The cabin, which never had electricity or running water, was occupied into the 1980s, was disassembled in 2013, cataloged, and restored before it was donated to the Smithsonian Institute and assembled inside the “Slavery and Freedom” section of the museum.

Museum officials call the cabin one of its “crown jewels,” along with Harriet Tubman’s shawl, Nat Turner’s Bible, and a plane used by the Tuskegee Airmen.
